Found Object Jewelry Conquistador Spanish Explorer Necklace
by LATONYA SHAW

The artist describes this necklace best I will include the exact item description provided. It details items used and the thinking that went into the creation of the necklace. This is an area of high interest to me and hopefully will have something to share with you soon that I’ve created. For now this found object necklace takes the stage and is putting a great show.

Description By Artist:

A mixed media necklace made from found objects – an old keyhole escutcheon and a vintage coin commemorating the Spanish conquistador and explorer, Vasco Nunez Balboa.

I stamped a pattern on the old escutcheon and layered a verdigris filigree piece and the coin over it. A strip of heavy weight art paper in deep red adds a bit of contrast, and a tiny vintage compass encased in filigree hangs below. An antique style cross decorates the backside of the pendant, and makes this piece reversible.

The pendant hangs from a textured silver plated 18″ chain via another filigree piece. The length of the pendant, including the compass, is 2 1/2″.
As with all my found object jewelry, this is a one of a kind piece that you certainly won’t see anyone else wearing!
